“A richer life for me means providing different opportunities for my kids, whether that’s education, sport, exploring different cultures; seeing them grow and develop and be happy as they take their first steps in their future career.”
A leader and innovator in the financial services.
A graduate of the INSEAD Strategic Management in Banking Programme, Alan Mathewson has spent more than 30 years in the financial services industry. He spent 22 of these years at Santander, where, as Managing Director of Wealth Management, he drove the bank’s expansion into the UK wealth management and private banking market, overseeing the roll-out of a digital investment platform.
Alan left Santander in 2018 to join Brown Shipley as CEO. From his first day in the post, Alan has worked to make diversity and inclusion a key priority, including the launch of an internal women’s network and the expansion of the proportion of women on the Executive Committee from 0% to 30%. He has also overseen the growth of the number of women in senior leadership positions to over 25%. Alan is a passionate advocate for flexible working, and facilitated the launch of ‘Wellbeing Wednesdays’ at Brown Shipley during the COVID-19 pandemic to encourage colleagues to take some time for themselves. For his commitment to supporting the LGBT community, Alan was named one of LGBT GREAT’s 100 Executive Allies of 2020 and 2021.
